{Getting Cosy ~ The who, what, where, why and how of autumn/winter in the Love Audrey household. What we love to cook, eat, wear and do in the colder months, with just a hint of Christmas magic.}
I am not cut out for cold weather. I may admire the colours of the leaves at this time of year and relish the opportunity to hunker down under a blanket on the sofa, but as far as winter goes, I think it kind of sucks.
As the nights draw in and the cold, dark mornings become harder to bear, I feel my mood begin to dip. It occurred to me today that if I was to ever slip down the emotional precipice towards depression again, it would happen at this time of year. As such, it is essential for me to find small ways to lift my mood, unwind and restore contentment.
I find candlelight instantly calming, and endeavour to fill the house with it as often as possible. Our mantelpiece seems almost to groan under the weight of tea lights and the various vessels I use to contain them. I love the way the light flickers and glows.
I’d been wanting to add something deliciously scented to the fold for quite a while. The pure vegetable wax candles from Neom Luxury Organics made their way firmly on to my wish list after reading a plethora of positive reviews from the likes of London Makeup Girl, Lips So Facto and Essie-Button. I finally decided to treat myself and placed an order with Being Content {my new favourite online beauty boutique} for a ‘Real Luxury’ travel candle.
Once delivered, I could smell the candle’s fragrance before I had even removed the outer packaging. The scent is incredibly concentrated and I can only imagine the potency of the larger, 3-wick version. Neom’s candles contain only pure essential oils, as opposed to synthetic fragrances. The combination of lavender, jasmine and Brazillian rosewood in Real Luxury lives up to its description as the ‘cashmere blanket’ of the Neom scent library. It is warming, deeply comforting and instantly relaxing. I love it, and would highly recommend.
In addition to their exquisite aromatherapeutic properties, these candles burn cleanly and without any soot for up to 20 hours. The larger version has a burn time of up to 55 hours.
I will definitely be investing in a 3-wick candle for the living room {Christmas Wish is calling to me}, as well as some additional travel candles for my desk {Inspiration I suspect} and the bathroom {Sumptuous sounds perfect}.Close friends should also expect to see these popping up come Christmas day. They’re such ideal gifts.
I’ll concede these represent an indulgent treat, but when faced with the winter blues, I can’t help but think a few candles are cheaper than therapy.
What scented candles do you like to burn at this time of year? How do you avoid the winter blues?

I love Jo Malone candles, they do some great spicy scented ones, which remind me of Christmas as soon as I smell them. They’re the perfect way to cheer me up on cold winter mornings.
Love the Neom candles – my friend bought me a three-wick one earlier this year, beautiful.
I make organic wax candles too – I am making a load for christmas presents over the next couple of weeks, happy to add a couple more on there and send you them over? message me your address if you’d like. Fragrances for winter include warm vanilla and brown sugar; white fig; frankinsencense and righ plum; vanilla anise; black pommegranante. All gorgeous. Karen x
Oh they sound fabulous! I’ll be in touch 🙂 xxx
I love a good candle- look out for Urban Apothecary candles in John Lewis which are in a beautiful glass jar. They look and smell amazing!
I actually spied these in John Lewis the other day and was very intrigued. The glass jars are so pretty! I will have to take a closer look, or sniff, next time I’m in store. Thanks for the tip 🙂
