Later this week I’ll be sharing the progress we’ve made in Izzy’s bedroom since moving in. Although it was the first space we tackled, it’s probably the least ‘done’ of all the rooms we’ve made a start on. Hopefully, sharing some of my inspiration here will get me back on track and itching to finish the decorating.

At almost 9 years old, Izzy predominantly uses her room as a peaceful haven from her younger brother and for calm, quiet activities like reading, writing and drawing. After sharing with Jesse for 4 years, I knew she desperately wanted something ‘grown up’ and worthy of the countless sleepovers she has long dreamed of hosting.
Having recently developed an aversion to pink, anything too ‘girly’ was off the cards as far as Izzy was concerned. The room also came with a high quality navy blue carpet which we were keen to incorporate.

Like me, Izzy enjoys colour and pattern. She also seems to have inherited my love of vintage interiors and the idea of including pieces with a sense of history attached to them really appeals to her.

As the images above might suggest, the first decision we made was to include some bold, retro wallpaper. We eventually settled on an overall colour scheme of blue and grey with the odd flash of neon pink, but as we’re drawn to quite an eclectic look I’m sure other hues will creep in too.
In terms of functionality, there are a few key things we want to achieve in this space…
- A comfy, cosy, reading nook {inspired by the one we created in the children’s old bedroom}.
- Plenty of book storage.
- An area for homework that can develop as Izzy grows.
- Space to play.
Pop back on Thursday for full details of the work we’ve completed so far, but in the meantime, tell me, do you have any decor/DIY projects on the go? What’s your inspiration?
