- Waking up at my parent’s house in Dorset.
- Lingering in bed with the children.
- Heading downstairs for a cup of tea and a natter with my Mum.
- Marvelling at just how much breakfast my little ones can put away.
- Demolishing a bowl of porridge topped with Demerara sugar.
- Relishing 15 minutes in the amazing power shower.
- Coaxing the children into their clothes.
- Pulling on a dress and tights.
- Chatting to my sister while I applyied my makeup.
- Missing my husband. He had to stay behind in Bristol for work.
- Popping to the shops with Mum and my sister.
- Replacing my trusty black ballet pumps.
- Resisting the urge to buy the gorgeous vintage china I spotted in a shop window. It took serious will power.
- Dashing home just as it began to rain.
- Eating toasted bagels with egg mayonnaise for lunch.
- Greeting the other guests as they arrived. We were joined by my Dad’s brother, his wife and my cousin as well as some family friends.
- Sipping tea and eating my Mum’s lemon drizzle cake.
- Making chips and beans for Jesse’s supper.
- Whisking him upstairs to bed.
- Settling down for a glass of red wine.
- Enthusiastically taking my place at the table for dinner. My Bonus Dad had prepared a traditional Danish cold table. It was an incredible spread, but I was far too busy eating to take any photos.
- Feeling grateful as my parent’s presented Izzy with her own Royal Copenhagen Christmas plate from the year she was born.
- Eating too much and laughing a lot.
- Feeling tipsy.
- Staying up way past my bedtime.
- Finally collapsing into bed just before 2am.
- Being woken up nice and early by the children. Obviously.
- Thanking the universe for Angry Birds and my mother’s Kindle.
- Dozing peacefully.
- Dragging myself out of bed in order to soothe my hangover with multiple cups of tea.
- Eating croissants for breakfast.
- Hurriedly getting dressed so we could head outside and make the most of the glorious sunshine.
- Admiring the clear blue skies. Such a welcome sight after so much rain.
- Taking a long, slow walk along the river.
- Pausing at the playground.
- Smiling as everyone took their turn on the trampoline.
- Loving the sight of my uncle walking hand-in-hand with Jesse.
- Retreating back to the house for a spot of lunch.
- Eating leftovers.
- Laughing at Jesse’s enthusiasm for hardboiled eggs and prawns.
- Frantically packing.
- Saying our goodbyes and making our way to the train station.
- Watching the sunset through the window on the way back to Bristol.
- Unpacking and eating our train picnic.
- Bundling the children into a taxi.
- Feeling relieved to be home.
- Slowly sipping a mug of tea.
- Somehow finding the energy to cook prawn linguine for supper.
- Bathing the children.
- Itching to tidy the house from top to bottom, but immediately thinking better of it.
- Listening to Jesse read before bed. It blows my mind that he’s now blending sounds and deciphering sentences.
- Craving an early night.
