One of the definite perks of my job at Love My Dress is that, every so often, I have the opportunity to get dressed up and head off to a fabulous industry party. It’s not all fun and games, after almost two years in this role I still find networking pretty challenging, but it’s always nice to catch up with friends and colleagues.
Last week saw the You & Your Wedding Bridal Retail Awards take place in West London. As I was feeling far from party ready, the last minute invitation threw me into a bit of a panic, but a little bit of pampering and a mad dash around the shops sorted me out in no time. I didn’t drag my DSLR with me to the big smoke, but I did snap the obligatory pre-party selfie on my phone before leaving my Mum’s flat…
Rochelle Ribbon Dress, French Connection
Luckily for me {and my wallet}, my local French Connection was positively overflowing with sale bargains. I took three frocks to the changing room with me and could have quite happily come away with all of them, but in an uncharacteristic display of self-control I limited myself to this beauty. Naturally, I replied to every compliment on Thursday night with enthusiastic shrieks of ‘£180 down to £54!’. I do love a bargain.
I also love a good bouffant. Go big or go home, I say! My hair was perfectly coiffed by the incredibly talented Alison Jenner and, as the biggest beehive I’ve sported to date, it certainly received a fair amount of attention. I kept my makeup pretty simple, opting for my signature red lipstick, a little black eye-liner and lashings of mascara.
Lipstick, Chanel Rouge Coco in No. 19 Gabrielle
I also applied a delicate spritz of Tom Ford Jasmine Rouge, the decadent perfume bestowed upon me by my generous husband at Christmas. I find it’s impossible not to feel like the most glamorous woman in the world while wearing this scent! This makes it the perfect choice for those days when my job is less fabulous, more working from home in my PJs.

You look absolutely stunning, Franky. Love the dress–what a bargain–and your beehive is positively towering. I do love a good up-do, and that’s definitely a good ‘un!!
Ahh thank you Angela. I was worried it was a little Marge Simpson, it felt so tall. My colleagues assured me I looked nothing like her 😉
Such a fantastic silhouette! You look great.
Networking is so hard – being one of the more outgoing members of my team, I’m constantly volunteered to go to events, and I really have to gird my loins and just go for it!
I find talking to people in the line for drinks is a good one, or the cloakroom, or even at the food table. Everyone feels nervous, so I tell myself that they’re happy that I’ve started talking to them!
Thank you Sam. I’m glad I’m not the only one who finds it scary. I sometimes have a hard time convincing my friends that these events are quite hard work! Getting dressed up more than makes up for it though.

Absolutely stunning! 🙂
