- Waking up in Dorset. Faced with another weekend of solo-parenting, I arranged a spur-of-the-moment trip to my parents’ house. Izzy and Mr L.A. were off on their own adventure, so Jesse and I had my mum and bonus dad all to ourselves.
- Sipping tea and watching cartoons while we discussed how we should spend the day.
- Grabbing breakfast and getting dressed.
- Heading out into the sunshine to explore Bridport market.
- Enjoying the bright colours of all the fresh fruit and veg.
- Grabbing a few groceries in Waitrose.
- Popping to Frosts next door. This is one of those amazing shops that seems to sell everything you could possibly think of. Mum treated Jesse to some new Lego and I treated myself to an enamel pie dish.
- Strolling to the playground so Jesse could have a run about.
- Slowly wandering home through the community orchard.
- Picking up some English asparagus on the way.
- Baking it with eggs. This simple dish is a current obsession of mine. Asparagus, olive oil, salt and pepper. 5 minutes in a hot oven before cracking over a few eggs. Continue baking until the eggs are cooked. Delicious.
- Sitting outside and eating lunch in the garden.
- Watching Jesse assemble his Lego and lose himself in an elaborate game of make-believe.
- Stealing a couple of hours alone with my mum to explore the local vintage emporiums.
- Swooning over antique furniture I can’t afford.
- Daydreaming about DIY projects that won’t happen for a while.
- Returning home in time for afternoon tea.
- Eating lemon drizzle cake and snoozing on the sofa.
- Preparing a simple chopped salad to accompany our pasta.
- Chatting over dinner.
- Helping Jesse into his PJs and depositing him in front of a DVD.
- Making our way to the Electric Palace to watch Far From the Madding Crowd. I absolutely loved it, highly recommend! Aside from anything else, the Dorset countryside looks stunning in every single shot.
- Savouring a couple of glasses of red wine before turning in for the night.
- Sleeping in.
- Enjoying one of my mum’s omelets for breakfast. Nobody makes them quite like her.
- Pulling on our clothes and heading off to the local garden centre for a browse.
- Lusting after all sorts of plants for our yarden.
- Wondering if I could manage a clematis on the train home.
- Loving Jesse’s determination to read almost every sign aloud.
- Pausing for elevenses at the cafe.
- Driving home for lunch.
- Packing up our belongings and heading to the station.
- Saying our goodbyes on the platform at Dorchester West.
- Reading Thomas the Tank Engine stories all the way to Bristol.
- Relishing a train picnic that consisted of cake and chocolate.
- Hailing a taxi and heading home.
- Picking up bread and milk on the way.
- Making beans on toast for our supper.
- Plunging Jesse into the bath before coaxing him into his PJs.
- Reading a few chapters of The BFG and tucking him into bed.
- Planning to relax with a hot shower, an early night, clean sheets and a new book.

P.S I shared a few more photos from this weekend on Instagram.
P.P.S Love Audrey turned six years old on the 26th, which means I’ve been documenting my weekends for almost 5 years. Thank you for reading and commenting on these posts, it means an awful lot to me that you enjoy them so much.
I so enjoy reading about your weekends, Franky. I’ve tried doing this too, but my weekends never seem to sound as lovely as yours…I truly love how you write about them 🙂 I am going to try that baked asparagus too…sounds delicious!
Thank you Joanne, and do try the asparagus, it’s wonderful! xxx
