• Waking up in Cornwall on the last morning of our week-long holiday.
  • Wishing we didn’t have to leave.
  • Sipping tea in the kitchen with my mum and Mr L.A.
  • Nipping into the shower before the children woke up.
  • Pulling on skinny jeans and my favourite grey sweater.
  • Packing up, stripping beds and loading the car.
  • Taking one last wander through the countryside. We stayed at Goongillings Orchard near the Helford River, a cosy property surrounded by ancient apple trees and fluffy, cloud-like hydrangeas.
  • Hopping into the back of my uncle’s car and driving to their smallholding just outside Constantine.
  • Saying goodbye to my parents.
  • Grabbing a quick cup of tea before we set off.
  • Catching a lift to Truro with my lovely cousin.
  • Collecting our tickets and waiting for the train to arrive.
  • Changing at Plymouth.
  • Reading My Family and Other Animals* and loving every word.
  • Watching Izzy read Harry Potter and The Cursed Child*. She was completely enthralled and finished the entire book before we made it back in Bristol.
  • Jumping in a taxi.
  • Feeling relieved to be home.
  • Sorting through our suitcases and making a start on the laundry.
  • Sitting with the children while they ate pizza for their tea.
  • Helping them into their jimjams.
  • Flicking through Izzy’s holiday photos. Before we went to Cornwall, she spent 10 days in Europe with my mum.
  • Loving her pictures of Paris and Venice. Although she’s quite new to photography, she managed to capture some beautiful images.
  • Promising to help her put together an album later this week.
  • Giving the kids goodnight kisses and tucking them into bed.
  • Ordering a takeaway.
  • Making it through The Witch in one piece. I didn’t think much of the ending, but it’s definitely one of the best horror films ever made. Worth a watch if you enjoy scary movies as much as I do.
  • Collapsing into bed.
  • Listening to noisy neighbours and longing for sleep.
  • Finally drifting off.
  • Waking up as Jesse clambered in beside me.
  • Heading downstairs for a cup of tea.
  • Watching The Rescuers from beneath a blanket on the sofa.
  • Tucking into scrambled eggs on toast.
  • Deciding we all needed a PJ day.
  • Hanging laundry out to dry.
  • Pottering in the yarden. Our herbs were in desperate need of some TLC after a week of neglect.
  • Daydreaming about growing more fruit and veg. We visited the Potager Garden and Cafe while we were in Cornwall and their stunning ornamental kitchen garden has really sparked my imagination.
  • Snacking on tuna quesadillas for lunch.
  • Finishing off a few chores and doing some prep for dinner.
  • Settling down on the sofa to watch Zootopia with the kids.
  • Munching on crisps and drinking tea.
  • Making Spinach and Artichoke Filo Pie.
  • Sitting in the yarden while it cooked.
  • Mixing up some homemade yogurt dressing to accompany a simple green salad. 3 tbsp natural yogurt, 2 tsp mustard, a squeeze of lemon juice, a little olive oil and some chopped herbs. Perfect.
  • Eating too much.
  • Arguing with Jesse about not eating at all. Fussy eater for life.
  • Reading bedtime stories.
  • Riding those pesky post-holiday blues.
  • Looking forward to a lazy evening on the sofa.
