While I don’t blog about beauty as much as I did in the early days of Love Audrey, my passion for lipstick, powder and paint remains as strong as ever.
Skincare has always been my biggest weakness. It’s also an area of my life in which I simply cannot embrace minimalism. I like having a ‘wardrobe’ of cleansers to choose from depending on what my skin is doing on any given day. Everything from the weather to what I’m eating can have an impact, so I find it pays to be prepared.
For reference, my skin leans towards dehydrated and it can become oily if I don’t keep this in check. It’s easily congested and I also suffer from the odd hormonal spot.
So, without further ado, here are four cleansers currently in rotation on my bathroom shelf…
Worth every bit of blogger hype it receives, this is my morning cleanse of choice. The peachy-pink gel smells delicious, dissolves makeup and grime, and leaves my skin feeling soft, clean and hydrated.
As you would expect from Oskia, the science is spot on too. Pumpkin enzymes purge pores and dissolve the bonds that bind dead cells to the skin’s surface while Vitamins A, C and E work their magic, resurfacing and restoring the skin. Starflower Oil, Magnesium and Vitamins B2 and C promote firmness while Oskia’s signature MSM (the most bio-available form of Sulphur) detoxifies, soothes and reduces inflammation.
The cleansing balm I just can’t quit, this product has been a staple in my routine for over 5 years. It’s all I used during the run-up to my wedding in 2012 and it’s the first thing I reach for when my face needs a little TLC.
Containing wild sea fennel and vitamin E to rebalance, purify and reduce the appearance of pores, plus extracts of jasmine and rose to restore radiance, if feels rich and luxurious to apply.
I use this as I would any other cleansing balm; massaging it on to dry skin to melt away makeup, dirt and grime before emulsifying with a little warm water and then removing fully with a clean face cloth or flannel. Products like this really come into their own during the colder months, so I’ll definitely be stocking up before autumn hits.
CeraVe started out as something I purchased for Izzy. Keen to instill good habits early on and help her look after her tweenage skin, I took inspiration from Caroline Hirons’ teen routine on Instagram, ordering this cleanser, the PM Facial Moisturising Lotion* and a can of Serozinc*. This combination has worked a treat for Izzy and we’ve since added the AM Facial Moisturising Lotion* too.
I had to sample the Hydrating Cleanser myself, and when I did, I instantly fell for its simplicity and the fact my skin felt super soft and hydrated after every use. I tend to reach for this on makeup-free days when I feel like my face needs something simple and uncomplicated.
The real workhorse of my collection, I use this cleanser almost every evening. Described as ‘a superfood-rich oil-to-milk cleanser for face and eyes’ it removes all makeup and impurities to reveal soft, clean skin. The light, silky texture is perfect for a quick facial massage and it doesn’t leave any residue at all. I truly love everything about this product and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it.
- What’s your current favourite cleanser? Is there anything you think I should add to my collection?
