- Waking up in a daze when Jesse wandered into our room at 5.20am.
- Sending him back to bed.
- Dozing off.
- Waking up again around 7am.
- Creeping downstairs to avoid waking our guests. Mr L.A.’s best friend and his partner had arrived from Leamington on Friday night.
- Sipping tea on the sofa.
- Laying the table for breakfast. I always like to make an effort when we have company, so I dug out the linen napkins and used a proper jug for the milk.
- Warming pain au chocolat in the oven. {Waitrose part-baked are the best.}
- Throwing together a lazy fruit salad of melon, blueberries and pomegranate while Mr L.A. looked after the tea and coffee.
- Sitting down to eat.
- Helping the others plan their day as I wasn’t feeling well enough to venture out.
- Coaxing the children into their clothes.
- Supervising Izzy as she cleaned her newly pierced ears.
- Marvelling at how grown-up she’s looking these days.
- Saying goodbye to everyone at the door.
- Napping on the sofa.
- Watching Gossip Girl on Netflix.
- Re-heating leftovers for lunch. I’m currently obsessed with the 30 minute Sweet Potato Chilli from A Modern Way to Cook*.
- Running myself a bath.
- Inhaling the scent of my favourite Pomegranate Noir Bath Oil.
- Lighting my large Neom Tranquility candle.
- Applying Rosy Cheeks Fresh Face Mask before sinking into the tub.
- Feeling incredibly relaxed.
- Drying off and slipping into clean PJs.
- Watching more Gossip Girl on Netflix.
- Welcoming the others home.
- Catching up on all their adventures.
- Taking a very exciting phone call from a certain female food writer.
- Doing my best to remain calm as she quizzed me about this.
- Immediately phoning my mum to fill her in.
- Saying goodnight to the children.
- Sipping rhubarb gin and tonic.
- Making a start on dinner for the grown-ups.
- Listening to Fleetwood Mac while a big pot of Kale, Tomato and Lemon Zest Spaghetti bubbled away on the stove.
- Dressing a chopped salad of little gem lettuce, cucumber, tomato and radishes with olive oil and lemon juice.
- Lighting candles and laying the table.
- Eating too much.
- Clearing everything away and setting up a game of Fury of Dracula*. It was a little slow and complicated as we were learning while we played, but I found it surprisingly fun.
- Laughing a lot.
- Collapsing into bed.
- Sleeping in.
- Serving a light breakfast to save room for Sunday lunch.
- Sipping tea and chatting while the children watched The Lego Movie.
- Peeling potatoes for roasting.
- Chopping carrots.
- Cooking sausages.
- Sauteing kale.
- Smothering Yorkshire puddings in copious amount of gravy.
- Feeling full, but wishing I’d made dessert anyway.
- Seeing our guests off at the door.
- Relaxing on the sofa while Mr L.A. tidied the kitchen.
- Burning my new Basil and Neroli candle from Jo Malone. Such a fantastic scent.
- Watching Swallows and Amazons. Isabel and Jesse were mesmerised and I thought it was wonderfully nostalgic. Mr L.A. fell asleep.
- Making dippy eggs and soldiers for the children’s tea.
- Running Jesse a bath.
- Persuading him to tidy his room.
- Putting fresh sheets on his bed.
- Giving goodnight kisses.
- Tapping away at my laptop while Izzy watches Pretty Little Liars.
- Trying not to panic about heading to London for work tomorrow evening. I really must pack my suitcase…
