- Waking up as Jesse crept into our bedroom.
- Tip-toeing downstairs to avoid waking Carl. The night before, he hadn’t arrived home from work until 1am.
- Sipping tea on the sofa while Jesse watched a movie.
- Greeting Izzy and Mr L.A. when they finally joined us downstairs.
- Warming croissants in the oven.
- Nipping to Tesco for supplies.
- Buying budget blooms and cocktail ingredients for a dinner party later that day.
- Relishing the sight of daffodils on my dining table.
- Resting while the children played.
- Unloading our online food shop.
- Tucking into tuna quesadillas for lunch.
- Flicking through my grandmother’s old recipe book and feeling nostalgic.
- Roasting nuts and toasting spices for a bowl of Pistachio Dukka.
- Melting chocolate for a batch of vegan brownies. If you happened to catch my Instagram Story, you’ll already know they were a disaster! It turns out my edition of A Modern Way to Cook* features a recipe for Raspberry and Pistachio Brownies that’s had to be corrected in subsequent reprints. I was so disappointed, especially as I’ve made them with eggs and butter on a previous occasion and they were delicious.
- Sending Mr L.A. out in search of an emergency vegan dessert. Thank goodness for fresh fruit and lemon sorbet.
- Feeling flustered.
- Jumping in the shower.
- Pulling on skinny jeans and my favourite Delores Daywear Tee.
- Carefully applying my makeup and blow drying my hair.
- Regaining a sense a calm.
- Returning to the kitchen.
- Prepping the ingredients for Meera Sodha’s Pumpkin, Black-Eyed Bean and Coconut Curry.
- Toasting sesame seeds for Tamarind and Caramelised Red Onion Rice, another recipe from Fresh India*.
- Listening to the children’s chatter as they ate Quorn nuggets for their tea.
- Laying the table and lighting candles.
- Sending the children up to bed.
- Waiting for our guests to arrived.
- Greeting them at the door.
- Gratefully accepting the Vegan Chocolate Pie they arrived with. It’s amazing what you can do with some silken tofu!
- Waiting for Mr L.A. to pour me a cocktail.
- Talking about films, music, television and much, much more. I love getting to know new friends.
- Popping in and out of the conversation as I put the finishing touches to dinner.
- Sitting down to eat.
- Suddenly discovering it was 1am.
- Safely delivering our guests to their Uber.
- Loading the last few things into the dishwasher before collapsing into bed.
- Sleeping in.
- Eventually dragging myself downstairs.
- Drinking tea in a daze.
- Eating fried eggs for breakfast.
- Parking myself on the sofa for a few hours.
- Summoning enough energy to cook, style and photograph a recipe for the blog.
- Enjoying Izzy’s company as she helped me in the kitchen.
- Sitting down to eat what I’d made.
- Lounging on the sofa some more.
- Watching Jesse build a marble maze from Lego.
- Realising it was time to cook dinner.
- Wondering where the day had gone.
- Loosely following Lil’s recipe for egg fried rice.
- Running Jesse a bubble bath.
- Sorting laundry and tidying our bedroom.
- Giving goodnight kisses.
- Tapping away at my laptop.
- Longing for an early night.
- Feeling nervous and excited for the week ahead. Mr L.A. is away and I’ve got a lot on, including my first appearance at The Wedding Sessions on Wednesday. Wish me luck!

I love dinner parties and yours sounds great, even in spite of the spoiled brownies. Good luck with your busy week – don’t work too hard
