Mr LA and I saw in the New Year from the comfort of our sofa. We tucked the children safely in their warm beds, cooked some steaks, ate some steaks, drank some wine, watched a movie {Black Swan… *shiver* creepy stuff}, watched a little of Jools Holland, kissed at midnight and then went to bed. It was perfect.

Looking back…

Where to start with 2011? Have I achieved all that I set out to at the beginning of the year?

Well, I wrote a 20,000 word dissertation, finished my MA and was awarded a merit for my efforts.

We’ve planned our wedding. I’ve mailed invites, sorted the table plan, agonised over our outfits, decorated jam jars, wrapped favours and baked wedding cakes. Hard to believe it will all be over in 2 weeks.

The children have grown so much over the last year. Izzy will be 7 in a few short weeks and she reminds me so much of myself at that age. She rarely has her nose out of a book and is never happier than when she’s writing some kind of elaborate story, usually to be read aloud by me. Jesse makes me giggle about a million times a day. He’s permanently attached to his toy cars and often seems to drift off into an imaginary world filled with dinosaurs, tigers and bears.

Looking forward…

It’s funny, today doesn’t really feel like a new beginning. I can’t really focus my mind on the things I hope to achieve this year and for the first time in forever I feel as if I don’t have plan. No resolutions, no grand designs. I suspect this is down to the wedding. Perhaps waking up the morning after, on January 15th, will feel like the first day of our fresh start.

That said, I think I’d like to read more in 2012.

I definitely want to write more. And have people read what I write. And maybe have them like it too.

I hope to find my way to a career somehow. I’d settle for a job that lets me use my brain a little, even if it doesn’t set my deepest passions alight.

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Happy New Year! How did you welcome in 2012 and what are you hoping to achieve this year?
