Mr LA and I saw in the New Year from the comfort of our sofa. We tucked the children safely in their warm beds, cooked some steaks, ate some steaks, drank some wine, watched a movie {Black Swan… *shiver* creepy stuff}, watched a little of Jools Holland, kissed at midnight and then went to bed. It was perfect.
Looking back…
Where to start with 2011? Have I achieved all that I set out to at the beginning of the year?
Well, I wrote a 20,000 word dissertation, finished my MA and was awarded a merit for my efforts.
We’ve planned our wedding. I’ve mailed invites, sorted the table plan, agonised over our outfits, decorated jam jars, wrapped favours and baked wedding cakes. Hard to believe it will all be over in 2 weeks.
Looking forward…
It’s funny, today doesn’t really feel like a new beginning. I can’t really focus my mind on the things I hope to achieve this year and for the first time in forever I feel as if I don’t have plan. No resolutions, no grand designs. I suspect this is down to the wedding. Perhaps waking up the morning after, on January 15th, will feel like the first day of our fresh start.
That said, I think I’d like to read more in 2012.
I definitely want to write more. And have people read what I write. And maybe have them like it too.
I hope to find my way to a career somehow. I’d settle for a job that lets me use my brain a little, even if it doesn’t set my deepest passions alight.
I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
Happy New Year! How did you welcome in 2012 and what are you hoping to achieve this year?

Happy New Year my lovely.
I felt like I was starting anew after my wedding too. Shedding my life as a Miss, and embracing my new one as a Mrs. Of course, some things stay the same, but you get a lovely sense of being a whole once you are married!
Enjoy every moment of these last two weeks – they go too fast!

Aww that last photo! Chloe was on that ride on Friday. xx
Happy New year to you and hope to see you again! x
I have loved reading your blog this year, it’s def in my top 10 blogs. If I don’t ‘speak’ to you before the big day I hope it goes perfectly. Please show us lots and lots of photos and my one bit of advice is, enjoy it. It goes so quick so take it all in. X
Happy New Year! We just had a relaxed one last night too, watched Legend of the Guardians (cos I love owls and we are big children really…) I get a bit overwhelmed at NYE so a quiet one suits me.
Can;t believe the wedding is so close,it’s going to be amazing I’m sure. You will have such a WONDERFUL day 🙂
I’ve not made any strict plans for 2012 other than wanting to go to Scotland on holiday, am happy to see where this funny old road takes me!
And keep on writing, you have such a flair for writing and I really hope you get the opportunity to share your skillz with as many people as you can!
Many congratulations on finishing your dissertation! I remember mine was such a slog…
And all the best for the wedding… I can imagine you’ll look so beautiful

Happy new year, missy! I’m a little exhausted just reading about your accomplishments in 2011. You should be so proud! I hope the next year is just as fulfilling – and with your wedding so soon around the corner I’m sure it will be. (:
Oh wow, only 2 weeks to go. So exciting!
*gets a bit misty-eyed* wow, you’ve had quite a year, and some great things to aim for this year, although I do agree that its natural that you’re not in a very resolutions type of mood!
For me, I’ve actually alot of the same goals…read and write more…to find myself a career that uses my brain a bit more!
But I definitely look forward to reading where this year takes you, and being able to read most moments in your own very lovely style!
We rang in the New Year at home, in bed, snuggled in and watching a movie. And it was fabulous. We so rarely take the time to just sit and enjoy a movie these days.
Let’s see. I definitely plan to read more this year as well. The pile on my nightstand is getting longer and longer.
I can’t wait to see pictures of your wedding. You are going to be a beautiful bride!!
