Having shared the inspiration for Izzy’s new room earlier this week, it’s finally time for the big reveal. Well, the small reveal. There’s still plenty to do in this space, but we’re thrilled with the progress we’ve made so far. Behold… I partnered with Wallpaper Direct to transform the alcoves in this room. Over the course of a few days, they went from bland and bare to retro fabulous! Every time I catch a glimpse of that bold, floral pattern it makes me smile.
I was drawn to Happy by Eco Wallpaper because it immediately reminded me of vintage linen from the 60s and 70s, some of which featured in my Grandmother’s home as I was growing up.

I think the bright, bold pattern is just perfect for a child’s room. The design is available in a range of colours, but the sky blue and grey worked perfectly with the existing navy carpet in Izzy’s room.
This was our first foray into hanging wallpaper and, I have to admit, we were pretty terrified at the prospect. However, after a quick read of this no nonsense guide we were good to go. We also fell in love with this hilarious video we found on youtube. You should watch it even if you don’t have wallpaper to install.
When it came to it, we found the task relatively simple, but a little panic inducing at times. My top tip would be to stay calm and make sure you have all the relevant tools to hand. Oh, and don’t try and trim your edges with a blunt stanley knife!
Wallpaper is great if you crave a bit of instant DIY gratification. Unlike paint, which often requires multiple coats and plenty of drying time, it creates an instant style statement in a relatively short space of time. The process was so satisfying; I certainly haven’t ruled wallpaper out for other areas of the house.
Intelligent Matte Emulsion in Gauze Mid by Little Greene via Designer Paint / Wooden wall birds by Anna Wiscombe / Grey Wall Display Box by Bloomingville via Quince Living
Having worked with Wallpaper Direct on this aspect of the room makeover, we then went on to use their sister site, Designer Paint, to order the emulsion for the remaining bare walls. After countless additional purchases for other projects, and flawless customer service every time, I will not hesitate in recommending both online stores to anyone with similar decor needs.
With the walls looking pretty damn fabulous, the ‘to do’ list for Izzy’s room now looks something like this:
- Sand and paint the bedroom door.
- Refinish or replace the radiator.
- Install plenty of book shelves and additional storage.
- Decide on a window treatment. Curtains, a blind, or shutters? Decisions, decisions…
- Pull together a comfy reading nook on the bottom bunk of Izzy’s bed, complete with cosy cushions and a quilt.
- Purchase a colourful rug and new bed linen.
- Create a gallery wall crammed full of beautiful art and photography.

We were provided with three rolls of wallpaper for review purposes. All gushing praise is my own honest opinion.
OMG I love this – I love retro prints like this x
Thanks Louise, me too! xxx
I love this. It’s so pretty. I think I’m going to have to start wearing M down on wallpapering our alcoves.
That’s a gorgeous print! Not ridiculously girly but still fun. Love it.
Catching up on post-holiday blog posts – I’m now trawling through Wallpaper Direct picking out wallpaper for each room of my house. My husband is going to LOVE me!
Ooops! My bad 😉
Happy wallpaper browsing!
