Zebra IzzyMojitos and Pulled Pork Bacon and Egg BapThe weekend

  • Enjoying that ‘I don’t have to get up in a hurry’ feeling.
  • Drinking tea on the sofa with the children while they watched cartoons.
  • Demolishing an egg and bacon sandwich for breakfast.
  • Luxuriating in the shower.
  • Pulling on some comfy clothes for a day of pottering at home.
  • Letting the children lounge around in their pyjamas.
  • Assembling Ikea furniture in the garage.
  • Teasing Carl when I finished my chair first.
  • Mixing up the rub for pulled pork. Again. I promise we’ll eat something different next weekend.
  • Smothering jacket potatoes in butter and cream cheese and eating them for lunch.
  • Listening to the children play while I busied myself in the kitchen.
  • Slipping the meat into the oven.
  • Slowly preparing a Flourless Chocolate Lime Cake.
  • Tidying the living room and vacuuming the hallway.
  • Feeding the children their supper and bundling them into the bath.
  • Changing into a favourite dress and quickly applying my makeup while they wallowed in the tub.
  • Giving goodnight kisses.
  • Suspecting Jesse would lie awake until he heard our guests arriving.
  • Slicing vegetables for Southern Style Slaw.
  • Popping a CD on and watching Carl dish out nibbles.
  • Greeting Emma and her husband Nick with an enthusiastic wave as their car pulled into our driveway.
  • Spotting Jesse out of bed on the landing upstairs.
  • Letting him sit with us for five minutes before tucking him in and demanding he finally go to sleep.
  • Sipping mojitos and getting lost in conversation with our friends.
  • Pulling the pork and calling everyone to the table.
  • Eating too much.
  • Laughing a lot.
  • Almost certainly drinking too much.
  • Laughing some more.
  • Not realising it was quite so late.
  • Saying our goodbyes at the door.
  • Feeling very lucky to have such good friends in my life.
  • Selfishly wishing Nick and Emma weren’t on the brink of moving away from Bristol, but also feeling incredibly excited for them as they embark on a new adventure.
  • {Drunkenly} collapsing into bed.
  • Being vaguely aware of Jesse crawling in beside me a little after 6am.
  • Employing the Netflix/older sibling babysitting service so we could stay in bed a little longer.
  • Finally dragging ourselves downstairs.
  • Treating my hangover with tea and a cooked breakfast.
  • Taking a long shower.
  • Somehow managing to make myself look human.
  • Delivering Izzy to her drama class.
  • Enjoying a few hours to myself in town. I wandered aimlessly around the shops, read my book over lunch at Yo Sushi and treated myself to a few goodies in Lush.
  • Collecting Izzy and heading home in the rain.
  • Feeling cold and wet at the bus stop.
  • Longing for a cup of tea and my PJs.
  • Arriving home to find Jesse had built the biggest tower of Duplo I’ve ever seen outside of Legoland!
  • Loving how proud he was of his handiwork.
  • Eating leftovers for supper.
  • Putting the children to bed.
  • Planning a quiet evening followed by a much needed early night.
