- Enjoying that ‘I don’t have to get up in a hurry’ feeling.
- Drinking tea on the sofa with the children while they watched cartoons.
- Demolishing an egg and bacon sandwich for breakfast.
- Luxuriating in the shower.
- Pulling on some comfy clothes for a day of pottering at home.
- Letting the children lounge around in their pyjamas.
- Assembling Ikea furniture in the garage.
- Teasing Carl when I finished my chair first.
- Mixing up the rub for pulled pork. Again. I promise we’ll eat something different next weekend.
- Smothering jacket potatoes in butter and cream cheese and eating them for lunch.
- Listening to the children play while I busied myself in the kitchen.
- Slipping the meat into the oven.
- Slowly preparing a Flourless Chocolate Lime Cake.
- Tidying the living room and vacuuming the hallway.
- Feeding the children their supper and bundling them into the bath.
- Changing into a favourite dress and quickly applying my makeup while they wallowed in the tub.
- Giving goodnight kisses.
- Suspecting Jesse would lie awake until he heard our guests arriving.
- Slicing vegetables for Southern Style Slaw.
- Popping a CD on and watching Carl dish out nibbles.
- Greeting Emma and her husband Nick with an enthusiastic wave as their car pulled into our driveway.
- Spotting Jesse out of bed on the landing upstairs.
- Letting him sit with us for five minutes before tucking him in and demanding he finally go to sleep.
- Sipping mojitos and getting lost in conversation with our friends.
- Pulling the pork and calling everyone to the table.
- Eating too much.
- Laughing a lot.
- Almost certainly drinking too much.
- Laughing some more.
- Not realising it was quite so late.
- Saying our goodbyes at the door.
- Feeling very lucky to have such good friends in my life.
- Selfishly wishing Nick and Emma weren’t on the brink of moving away from Bristol, but also feeling incredibly excited for them as they embark on a new adventure.
- {Drunkenly} collapsing into bed.
- Being vaguely aware of Jesse crawling in beside me a little after 6am.
- Employing the Netflix/older sibling babysitting service so we could stay in bed a little longer.
- Finally dragging ourselves downstairs.
- Treating my hangover with tea and a cooked breakfast.
- Taking a long shower.
- Somehow managing to make myself look human.
- Delivering Izzy to her drama class.
- Enjoying a few hours to myself in town. I wandered aimlessly around the shops, read my book over lunch at Yo Sushi and treated myself to a few goodies in Lush.
- Collecting Izzy and heading home in the rain.
- Feeling cold and wet at the bus stop.
- Longing for a cup of tea and my PJs.
- Arriving home to find Jesse had built the biggest tower of Duplo I’ve ever seen outside of Legoland!
- Loving how proud he was of his handiwork.
- Eating leftovers for supper.
- Putting the children to bed.
- Planning a quiet evening followed by a much needed early night.
