• Waking up early.
  • Brimming with excitement. We were off to visit my best friend from Uni and her three-week-old baby.
  • WhatsApping Izzy. She’s currently in Paris with my mum on the first leg of an incredible European adventure.
  • Making myself a cup of tea before jumping in the shower.
  • Letting Jesse join me when he appeared in the bathroom.
  • Pulling on skinny jeans and a crisp white shirt.
  • Coaxing Jesse into his clothes.
  • Filling our cool bag with picnic food I’d prepared the night before.
  • Packing up a hearty meal I’d made for the new parents. I know from experience that food is one of the greatest gifts you can give people when they’re busy caring for a newborn. I cooked my beloved Mixed Bean Goulash and made sure they also had a pouch of Tilda rice, some grated cheese, a bag of salad, fresh fruit juice and homemade lime drizzle cake for dessert.
  • Catching the bus to Old Market.
  • Walking to Temple Meads Station.
  • Popping to Hart’s Bakery where we ordered a couple of cold drinks and shared a double chocolate cookie in the sunshine.
  • Boarding the train to Exeter.
  • Colouring in with Jesse. He’s currently obsessed with Pixel Pix* which I’d highly recommend if, like me, you have small people to entertain during the summer holidays.
  • Arriving at St. David’s station and hopping on the tiny, little train to St. Thomas.
  • Feeling very nostalgic. This was my first proper trip to the city since we left almost three years ago.
  • Hugging my friend and cramming in as many tiny baby cuddles as I could.
  • Feeling broody. Not really. Well, maybe a bit.
  • Enjoying the sound of Jesse playing with their eldest. No matter how long it’s been since they’ve seen each other, they just pick up where they left off. Isn’t that one of the most wonderful things about being a kid?
  • Dishing up the salads I’d made {Orzo and Tomato and Roasted Butternut Squash with Puy Lentils and Watercress}.
  • Making sure my friend had a chance to eat.
  • Drinking tea and chatting all afternoon.
  • Wanting to cry when I realised I’d brought my camera without an SD card.
  • Wishing we didn’t have to leave.
  • Persuading Jesse to say goodbye.
  • Making the journey home.
  • Feeling exhausted.
  • Serving up a quick supper and putting Jesse to bed.
  • Tucking into a curry.
  • Sipping a G&T while watching the opening scenes of Aliens.
  • Wishing we were watching Stranger Things. We’re on episode 5 and I’m completely hooked.
  • Leaving Mr L.A. and his brother to it and heading upstairs to bed.
  • Waking up when Jesse clambered in beside me.
  • Wishing it was later than 6am.
  • Lingering beneath the duvet for as long as possible. I felt pretty awful this morning to be honest. Yesterday’s jaunt really took it out of me and my post-viral fatigue symptoms have been through the roof all day.
  • Eventually making it downstairs for a cup of tea.
  • Watching Mary Poppins while Mr L.A. made breakfast.
  • Tucking into Berber Eggs on Toast.
  • Making sandwiches and salads to feed the cast and crew on a shoot tomorrow. Mr L.A. is making another short film and I guess I’m head of the catering department!
  • Staying home with Jesse while Mr L.A. and his brother headed to the location to prep and organise gear.
  • Making pasta with pesto for lunch.
  • Cleaning natural yogurt off the kitchen floor when Jesse accidentally turned a whole pot upside down while trying to retrieve a block of cheese from the fridge.
  • Curling up on the sofa to watch Beethoven.
  • Dozing off.
  • Feeling awful.
  • Running myself a bubble bath.
  • Feeling a little bit better after a lengthy soak.
  • Pulling on some clothes and applying a little makeup.
  • Making veggie sausages, fried egg and baked beans for Jesse’s dinner.
  • Throwing him in the tub, reading him a bedtime story and tucking him in for the night.
  • Listening to BBC Radio 6 and tapping away at my laptop.
  • Trying to find the energy to make dinner for the grown-ups.
  • Suddenly remembering I have some prosecco chilling in the fridge.
