I know, I know, I should have transitioned into an array of autumnal content by now. I guess I’m still not quite ready to stop thinking about summer and all that went with it.
Maybe if I post one more picture of ice-cream enjoyed beneath bright blue skies, I’ll finally feel like moving on to mugs of hot chocolate, crisp fallen leaves, winter blankets and fluffy socks.
There’s something quite magical about Lulworth Cove.
We first visited in 2014 on what turned out to be an incredibly sunny day. The children spent the entire time swimming while the rest of us sat perched on chalky white rocks, eating fish and chips for our lunch while brightly coloured boats bobbed up and down on the crystal clear water before us.
It was a fabulous trip, and one that definitely left a lasting impression on Isabel and Jesse. Over the last 12 months, they’ve asked repeatedly to return to the cove. Our two-week summer holiday in Dorset finally presented the perfect opportunity, so we packed a picnic and piled into my mum’s car for the drive down.
There was a slight chill in the air this year. The children hesitated before plunging into the sea, but whenever the sun peeped out from behind the clouds its heat was intense enough to persuade them to wade a little further.
As the water is so calm, it’s an ideal spot for little ones. Even my mum, who is not exactly known for her love of splashing about in the surf, decided to take a quick dip!
Despite the onslaught of tourists and a car park overflowing with visitors, Lulworth Cove somehow manages to feel beautifully secluded. The limestone cliffs, pebble beach and azure blue water make you feel as if you’re visiting the Med rather than a sleepy seaside town on the Dorset coast.
Away from the beach, the Heritage Centre is well worth a visit, as is The Dolls House, a traditional Dorset sweet shop that serves cream teas and ice-cream in its quaint cottage garden. We’ve never quite made it over the hill, but Durdle Door is only a short walk away and there’s also a castle that we’re yet to explore.
We intend to make our trip to Lulworth Cove an annual affair and we’d love to experience its breathtaking beauty in all four seasons. We’d like to take a boat out on the water one day and maybe even stay in a cottage nearby.
Either way, I’m certain we’ll always have fond memories of this particular pleasure spot.
Have you visited Lulworth Cove? If you haven’t, you really should!

I love Lulworth! We used to go on holiday to Dorset from Devon when I was a kid and have fond memories of the cove and Durdledoor. Went back there on a mini break with Will maybe 5 years ago and had a lovely (& sunny) time.
You should take the kids to Camp Bestival which takes place in the grounds of Lulworth Castle! It’s a really lovely festival 🙂
Oooh this looks lovely definitely one for next year! I live pretty close to dorset and somehow never make it down nearly enough. You’ve made me determined to make a trip next summer!!!!
Happy Sunday 🙂
